Tapio Ikonen: the conversation
Mornings in the Lab · Interview transcript
You can do everything right and still hear, 'Let me think about it.' That pause can cost you everything. And it doesn't apply to sales alone. It shows up anywhere pressure and timing collide. Meet Tapio Econ, a Finnish American entrepreneur who spent years turning maybe hell yeses. But before he taught people to close, Tapio learned pressure in a place where the stakes were life and death. He flew military aircraft for the Finnish Air Force where decisions are made under pressure and hesitation has real cost. And before that, Tapio was behind a drum kit touring the American Southeast as a working musician. Night after night, stage after stage, he learned that trust comes from timing, listening, and not overpowering the room. He played around 800 shows in under three years, opening for BB King, Delbert McClinton, and the Atlanta Rhythm Section. And for a moment there, he was the official drummer for the Dixie Chicks. Tapio runs OnFire Sales.ai, working with small and medium-sized businesses across the US, Finland, and Canada. He helps business owners build predictable lead flow, manage follow-up, and close deals without feeling pushy or fake. Not with pressure tactics or gimmicks, but by creating so much real value that saying yes feels natural. Today we're talking sales closing, how AI is the biggest opportunity right now, and why digital marketing isn't a scam. And yes, of course, we're digging into the life of a touring musician. Tapio, welcome to Mornings in the Lab.
